Dr. Stager, Sr., MD, FACS
Dr. David Stager, Sr., his high school class Salutatorian, attended college at Holy Cross and John Carroll University and medical school and residency at Ohio State University. Following military service, he pursued his fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. under the tutelage of Dr. Frank Costenbader and Dr. Marshall Parks, the “father of pediatric ophthalmology”.
Since moving to Dallas, he has been in private practice, extensively involved in research, teaching and lecturing nationally and internationally, having authored over 153 publications. Over the last 20 years, his focus has been on misaligned eyes in adults, which has a 4-5% incidence in this country. He is now restricting his experience and expertise to this huge problem (the first in the country to do so with The Center of Misaligned Eyes).
He is a member of the A.O.S., the Squint Club (Research Assoc.), AAOPS, PEDIG research and coauthor with his son, Dr. Eileen Birch and Dr. Joost Felius at the Retina Foundation of the Southwest. Dr. Marshall Parks worked with him in his office and in surgery 1-2 times / month for 13 years. He is currently on a nationwide Board of 12 colleagues to find ways of addressing this issue with adults effectively and ethically.
Dr. Stager has 4 children and is married to Patricia. He enjoys his 45 minute daily workout, a healthy diet and their active social life.
